If you do not agree with the policies of President Rodrigo Duterte, then get out of his administration, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III made this statement Wednesday following the recent decision of the House of Representatives to slash the Commission on Human Rights budget to P1,000.
“Stop barking at the President or the policies of the government. Policy ng Presidente ‘yan eh. Kung ayaw mo no’n, eh di umalis ka,” Sotto said.
Sotto explained that the rights body’s continued criticism to the President and his war on drugs prompted the House to slash the agency’s budget for 2018.
Sotto said he would not call for Gascon’s resignation but he would advise the CHR chief to “confine himself to the issues” and incidents of human rights violations.
“Stop hitting the war on drugs. Go for the incidents,” Sotto said.
The chamber, dominated by the President’s allies, had slashed the agency’s proposed 2018 budget of P623.38 million to just P1,000.
