President Rodrigo Duterte stated that he was not aware of US government in providing assistance to government troops in Marawi City in fighting against Maute group.

He “never approached America” for help, President Duterte stated.

“I am not aware of that until they arrived,” Duterte told a media briefing when asked about US assistance in Marawi City clash.

US forces were providing the country with technical assistance only, but they had no “boots on the ground,” the Armed Forces of the Philippines said on Saturday. — Reuters
