Austin Wesson and Rebekah Bouma, both 19, were married on Friday. On Saturday, the pickup truck they were driving careened off-road into a tree, The Wichita Eagle reports. Wesson died immediately — Bouma was pronounced dead early Monday morning at a nearby hospital.
The pair first met on a mission trip to South Africa in February of this year. By June, they’d announced their intention to marry. They also planned to move to Grand Rapids, Michigan, from Kansas, where they’d go to college before completing more mission trips together.
“Everybody questions (the marriage) because they’re 19,” Bouma’s mother Rachel said at her funeral Tuesday morning. “But there was no doubt they were meant for each other and how greatly they loved each other. If you saw them together, you would know. They were such a beautiful couple.”
According to KCTV 5, Wesson, who was driving the truck, lost control while driving. Further investigation is still ongoing.
