San Enrique town residents in Iloilo City, celebrated the 119th Philippine Independence Day by forming a giant human flag at the public Plaza of San Enrique. It was the first activity of its kind. Residents and guests who took part in the human flag-formation reached 6,631, according to Gilbert Marin, provincial tourism officer.
Those who joined the flag formation wore blue, red, and yellow shirts.The human flag formed covered almost all of the town’s plaza measuring 80 meters by 36 meters.
“This activity is a unique way of commemorating Independence Day. We also hope to help instill the spirit of nationalism among our youth,” San Enrique Mayor Rosario Mediatrix “Trixie” Fernandez told the INQUIRER.
San Enrique has a population of nearly 35,000 and atleast 85 percent of population joined the said activity together with their friends and relatives. The said activity was also supported by the municipal employees, members of NGO, students, and business groups.
