Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday recorded seven earthquakes in Cebu province in a span of less than 6 hours.
The first tremor struck at 3:41 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.6 and a depth of 1 kilometer, Phivolcs said.
Intensity 4 struck Asturias and Busay towns, and Cebu City. Intensity 3 was also felt in Mandaue, and Intensity 2 in Lapu-Lapu.
A magnitude 4.8 quake occurred two minutes later — the strongest of the 7 recorded today — struck the province.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities with a depth of 25 kilometers.
Five weaker earthquakes followed at 3:58, 4:41, 4:50, 6:17 and 9:13 a.m.
Phivolcs recorded a magnitude of 2.9 for 2 quakes, and magnitudes of 3.3, 3.2, and 2.7 for the rest.
According to ABS-CBN News, the epicenters of all 7 earthquakes, which were tectonic in origin, were traced in Asturias town.
As of press time, Phivolcs has not received reports of damaged property due to the earthquakes.
